Google's Gemini chatbot has recently been enhanced with a new memory feature, allowing users to store information such as personal preferences, work details, and other relevant data. This feature has started rolling out to select Gemini users, providing context to ongoing conversations.
For instance, users can instruct Gemini to remember their favorite foods, enabling the chatbot to offer tailored restaurant recommendations based on their culinary preferences.Currently, the memory feature is exclusive to subscribers of Google's $20-per-month Google One AI Premium plan, as reported by 9to5Google. It is not yet available on the Gemini mobile apps for iOS and Android, but only accessible through the web client.
Within the Gemini user interface, Google provides examples of useful priming memories, emphasizing customization options like language preferences and specific coding capabilities. While the memory feature supports English-language prompts at present, users have the flexibility to deactivate it at any time, with stored memories retained until manual deletion. It is crucial to note that memory features, like those in ChatGPT and Gemini, must be carefully designed to prevent potential exploitation.
Earlier this year, a security researcher discovered vulnerabilities in ChatGPT, highlighting the importance of robust security measures to safeguard user data from malicious activities.
